Amanda Heath has received support from ID with a Jobs Coaching service since March 2011. Amanda is a very positive person who lives life to the full and had a long term aim to gain paid employment. She volunteered at St Johns Ambulance and Sure Start but really wanted something more permanent.
Seeking employment is a difficult task but with the combined support from ID and North Tyneside and an employment support officer working in partnership, Amanda was offered the chance to do work experience in McDonalds in Kingston Park.
A Jobs coach from ID was allocated to support Amanda to increase her skills and confidence in order to carry out her role. Amanda's role entails manning the seating area, talking with customers, cleaning tables and restocking condiments. After eight weeks of her placement Amanda was offered the opportunity to extend her work experience and move to another McDonalds in Killingworth, which she snapped up, and quickly settled really well within the staff team.
After three weeks of Amanda's placement at Killingworth she was interviewed and offered a Permanent position working two days per week. Amanda was delighted to be given this opportunity and accepted the post immediately. ID continues to support Amanda in her role and aim to withdraw within 6 weeks. This success story shows that through good partnership working, the provision of good support and the hard work of someone who has a positive attitude huge achievements can be gained.
When asked how she felt about the Jobs Coaching process Amanda said:-
''I am so happy that I have got a paid job. I knew I could do it. It has been fun and I am not shy with customers any more. I am doing very well with my travel training to get to work and home again. I still can't believe it and I'm going to save the money I get from working for something nice.''
