
Health and Social Care Apprenticeships (Level 2) and Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3)

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of employers, which lead to national recognised qualifications. They are an effective means of filling skills gaps in current and future workforces for both existing and new employees. An apprenticeship is a combination of on and off the job training and learning.
An Apprenticeship includes the following components:
• A knowledge based element.
• A competency based element.
• Transferable or "key skills".
• A module on employment rights and responsibilities and personal learning and thinking skills.
Skills for Care is encouraging all social care employers to invest in apprenticeships for new and existing staff.
The ID Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship programmes in Health and Social Care involves:
Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (knowledge based element also known as the ‘technical certificate’). This Certificate is a Vocationally Related Qualification and supports the achievement of key knowledge areas and provides the underpinning knowledge of the mandatory units for the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care respectively.
The Key Skills qualifications in: • Application of Number • Communication Key skills are completed at Level 1 for Apprenticeships and Level 2 for Advanced Apprenticeships. Assessment is by means of the production of a portfolio and an externally set test. Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
