Diploma Level 4 in Advice and Guidance

Who is this Diploma for?

This Diploma is designed to reflect the activities and responsibilities of candidates who are fully developed and experienced practitioners, particularly in guidance and in formal advocacy. Candidates might also have some managerial or training responsibilities. They could also be creators of information, advice and guidance, either disseminating information themselves as practitioners or through their organisation in the form of publications. Candidates at this level are expected to have a more dynamic relationship with other organisations.

It is suitable for candidates:

  • who have managerial or training responsibilities
  • who are creators of information, advice and guidance within the service/practice
  • who are dynamic in their dealings with organisations.

The Diploma is a work-orientated qualification and is suitable for those who have current real work experience. It is open to candidates of any age, of either gender and there are no entry barriers on grounds of race, creed or previous academic attainment or learning.

Structure

The objective of this qualification is to provide a statement of competence that testifies to the ability of candidates to work with practitioners and clients to achieve clients’ objectives. It covers support systems, processes and services and recognises that employment in the advice and guidance sectors involves a diverse range of functions, tasks and activities that are constantly developing in the light of changing client needs.

It supports the recognised need that individuals and employers must be responsible for gaining the skills needed to meet ever changing objectives which will in turn lead to improvements in efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation and with clients.

This Diploma assesses a candidate’s competence against the national occupational standards for Advice and Guidance at Level 4. Candidates must prove they are competent in a wide range of activities.

Structure

To achieve a full OCR Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance, candidates must achieve eight units made up of four mandatory units and four optional units

A specialist endorsement is available to candidates taking this qualification if they achieve all four of the optional units from the Careers Education and Guidance specialist pathway (Units AG22, AG23, AG24 and AG25).
